The Glorious Race
by Winifred G. Barton

CHAPTER 3

QUALITY BEFORE QUANTITY

In order that the maximum number of persons may reap the benefits of membership in the glorious race in the shortest possible time, both the immediate and long term solutions require clarification.

Tomorrow each birth will be accompanied by a birth-right, a reason for being; perfection both physically and spiritually is the aim. The sooner this formula is put into practice the sooner humanity can experience an upsurge in moral consciousness and rise to the sixth state of unfoldment.

The World population, estimated by the United Nations to be over 3,000,000,000 is rapidly increasing. Of this number, nearly one half live on or below the borderline of malnutrition and despair. Most affluent societies express suitable sentiments about this deplorable state of affairs and make some attempts to help ... usually in those places where the maximum propaganda value is to be obtained.

Positive, unbiased action dictated by pure logic is required. Attempts to conquer hunger by increased food production are only temporary measures at the present rate of population increase, and however highly commendable the aspirations, they are doomed to failure. Catechizations to develop moral fibre in undernourished tissue is pious guff.

Tomorrow's parents are humanity's only hope. Yet statistics show that the number of chronically underfed children in the world today is estimated at over 600,000,000; Malaria affects 80,000,000 each year; Tuberculosis kills 2,000,000 and weakens many more. In fifteen Asian countries 87,000,000 children are without even an elementary education ... these are tomorrows' parents. How can we be so smug? On what basis do we, who live in abundance, plaud peace and equality?

The United Nations has the financial wherewithal, and Science has at its fingertips not only the means to feed the hungry, but the essential skill to control population problems.

Mankind's haphazard breeding habits are the height of immorality and without any semblance of logic. Birth Control Pills which rely on some form of responsibility of consumption are impracticable in many situations, as are psychologically objectionable methods of preventing conception and those requiring device or calculation; simply because these methods are least effective among those sections of society which have the greatest need for fool-proof administration.

The simple "Vasectomy" could solve immediate problems in underdeveloped countries to regulate the size, health and quality of families to the point where each child could be properly cared for, permitting rapid educational advances which would eventually make this emergency step obsolete.

Indeed, even in the most highly civilized societies there are many unworthy of parenthood, or genetically unsuited for reproduction, who propagate a stream of miserable repercussions in the way of badly neglected or mentally retarded children ... the result of irresponsibility rather than parental desire.

Lack of family planning within the individual home can be equally as detrimental as the national problem. Statistics show that large families are most prevalent among those sections of society least able to properly care for their offspring. Maternal well being plays a major role in the cultivation of a happy, healthy family; knowledge of domestic science, including nutritional values is also important (how often do we see all the top vitamin content of potatoes go into the garbage with thick peelings). But above all, parents should earnestly desire each child that is born. If this psychological factor is absent then parenthood is morally wrong.

The severing of the "Vas" in no way interferes with the activities which give a man his male characteristics; causes no alteration in sensation or discharge during intercourse. The man is simply incapable of reproduction.

No general anaesthetic is required for this simple operation which takes about an hour to complete, after which the patient can just get up and go home. Psychologically the result can often be richly rewarding. Most social workers today are fully aware that sterilization could solve their main problems ... particularly future problems, and that churchianity is obstructing this humane solution.

In using quantity as her method of evolving a species, Nature was depending upon the law of survival of the fittest to cull her crop. Left alone natural law would have sufficed; thus aiding Deity. Interfering with the balance of nature is a dangerous game;prolonging longevity and productivity with no equivalent attempt to improve quality will eventually deprave humanity. Thus the all out call to halt present practices and combine scientific and spiritual effort.

Quantity of spiritual beings has never been The Master's aim ... a full explanation of this point will be given later. QUALITY IS ALL IMPORTANT.

For this reason there is no special recrimination against those unfortunates who command so much of society's attention by their yen for a member of their own sex as love-partners. The lesbians and homosexuals are a small minority who occupy exaggerated space in literature simply because they delight the moralist who can adjudge himself superior while lashing the animal mind with the excitement it craves; ignoring the admonition "Judge not, lest ye be judged". These will bear no progeny, Their circumstance is a private affair.

Quite different is the case of those capable of parenthood who choose to live close to animal level with complete disregard for integrity. The spotlight of public censure would be more advantageously beamed on delinquent parents.

Across my desk each day pass cases of cruelty and ill treatment of children; violence and vice; and I regard each case in the same light. At birth these same parents were pure and innocent, possessed of perfect spirit; a spirit put into the small frame to gain joyful experience for its work hereafter. The parental care these children received, the environment to which they were subjected, produced adult specimens who act more bestially than many lower animal forms. Who then shall judge? They who had parental and environmental advantages? With every action these people scream out for re-education and guidance; their children beg for love and understanding. The problem of solving cruelty and unkindness is equally as urgent as the task of producing healthy, literate children.

To conquer disease, hunger and illiteracy in underdeveloped countries requires a forceful two-fold effort. Increased aid to a decreased population. A quality population no longer staggering under the burden of centuries of genetic error. Add abundant kindliness; then the future generations will be developed satisİfactorily, enjoy sound bodies and good educations (educations which do NOT include amenities and implanting of acquisitive values).Mature specimens with this background will be highly suitable for spiritual development.

We face these same problems in our own society if it is to participate in the glorious race destined to inhabit Earth. Let us aim for fewer underprivileged, under-loved-over-indulged children, and treat those we do have as tomorrow's priceless heritage.

An inheritance of congenital retardation or gross genetic peculiarity is terribly wrong ... a crime against the individual and all mankind. It offends all three of the laws under which we must live to survive ... social, natural and spiritual; yet figures reflect sharp increases in such children.

Time and again we have cases of retarded girls being taken advantage of and producing retarded offspring; and backward boys fathering similar children. These, and other extreme cases of irresponsibility are completely beyond the mental capacity of the participants to control and call for drastic measures. For the chain reaction causes only speedier chain reaction, giving generations to follow insurmountable obstacles to overcome as a result of our obstinance and negligence. Temporary emergency measures should definitely include compulsory sterilization for both sexes in this category. This could be controlled by a board of highly responsible experts who will think in terms above carnal sentimentality; of humanity as a unit and the future of our race.

Sterilization would in no way affect the happiness of the lives of the retarded. Their simple imagination cannot accept the seriousness of parenthood or the grave consequences of parental error. An affectionate companion or pet could provide the same outlet for paternal instincts. Sound eugenics and conservation will erase the long term problems facing our species. Time, and the speed with which we put sanity into practice can benefit only homosapiens. In His Wisdom our course has been set; the energy or apathy with which we tackle the task is our own affair.

Ego and environment are likewise the perpetrators of crime and delinquency. Society demands reparation, nature exerts crippling chemical and emotional repercussions, and later, the spiritual mind has to pay the full price for the error which has been committed against the Universal Law of Love. It is possible to escape social penalty, but the two superseding laws are inviolable; yet there are many today chasing around on this fools errand under the impression it pays.

Temporary insanity and irrepressible urges play a larger part in our criminal pattern than is officially recognized. This is the time when the uncontrolled animal mind builds up a surge of passion of such dark intensity that conscience is totally obscured. During the building-up period the sufferer feels unable to concentrate fully on anything other than the ultimate physical desire. This might range from a little girl hankering for a certain doll, a youth dreaming of a new car, a debutante longing for a career as an actress, a middle aged man wanting to possess a lovely girl, or a politician seeking re-election.

In the case of a sex criminal the preconscious is fed with lurid literature which it relays back to the conscious together with vivid recollections of previous similar experiences. These thoughts bubble up from the miasmic preconscious swamp even in dreams 'till all reason is obliterated.

After the carnal demand has been satiated the mind quietens down temporarily and spiritual ethics again burst forth; at these times the guilt feeling is agonizing. Then self pity creeps in, and seeing its opportunity the slumbering panther stirs, forcing its victim to repeat these instances over and over again ... thus the pattern is set, the sufferer powerless to resist.

Modern psychiatry fails, in that it bases its assumptions on the idea that physical man is capable of good behavior of himself. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is useless to try to retrain carnal senses into acceptable behavioral patterns in the way that one could with any intelligent animal. In homo-sapiens there are two distinct identities sparring for ascendency, just as St. Paul outlines. Schizophrenia is a common outward manifestation. Psychiatry recognizes the value of self recognition ... but which self is to be recognized? What lasting replacement has science to offer, what purpose to provide?

Assuming that the sex criminal is of average mentality; with the proper understanding between the patient and the counsellor, at the moment the dark thoughts begin to stir, the patient, regardless of the hour, goes immediately to his source of strength -- the counsellor. The nature of the feelings is discussed, their source brought from the preconscious storehouse in order to relieve some of its burden and draw the enemy out into the open: Confession as we call it in THE INNER POWER.

The patient is then treated with spiritual logic suitable to the individual need ... shewn how his problem is not unique ... the person has yet to be born who hasn't had the same fight with the flesh in one way or another. Deep concentration on reading material designed to provide spiritual strength, prayer, meditation on the joy of goodness, will all play their part in rehabilitation. A deep fraternal relationship grows between the patient and the Counsellor ... for the counsellor will invariably be someone who has fought and won many battles of his own. But to win the battle, his own Armageddon, the patient knows it is only his own inner strength that can prevail. It is a matter of fighting a series of small struggles, some of greater intensity than others. The victim learns to utilize every item of spiritual ammunition in the fight ... 'till the eventual outcome is total victory.

Let us suppose that the patient has had an abnormal sexual experience, possibly at first in order to please another person of whom he was very fond, someone who showed him kindness when others were blunt. Because of the emotional pleasure of giving joy to a friend the results of this experience might be very gratifying and not result in any feeling of remorse, for spiritually speaking no crime has been committed.

If early environmental conditions have been unfavorable, a short time later the same situation might develop and the act repeated. However, on this occasion the victim might obtain sensual pleasure, rather than joy in giving pleasure to another and guilt will be felt afterwards. The desire for further gratification will then begin to increase and further feelings of guilt will be firmly quashed with each repeat of the act. With excellent parental relationships this sort of thing could never happen; far too many parents today are more concerned with external impressions of good inter family relationships (with a view to social acceptance) than true, deep, inter family bonds keeping the maternal-paternal perspective clearly defined. Most of our social problems are merely manifestations of spiritual error.

The Counsellor explains all this to the patient. After confession the patient develops a clear insight into his problems, sees the Jekyll and Hyde components of the spiritual and natural self, and is prepared to fight the latter. Now aware of the behaviourial pattern which leads up to the abnormal desire, the patient learns to feed the mind with logical opposition to such gratifications; learns to seek expert guidance when the going gets rough. Gradually the carnal barrage will slacken off, and with each victory for spirit the vice will lose its grip.

The patient will start to go about the business of living with renewed vigor, no longer a slave of habit but master of his destiny.

Most people dissipate large amounts of energy at the whim of the carnal mind in various forms: Self-pity, self-flagellation, self-gratification, self-adulation. Any logical thinking that they do is usually confined to justification for these practices.

Criminal tendencies, unhappiness, the need for mental or physical healing, implies discordancy between the lower and higher selves. It is not easy to strip away the facade and gain true insight into the nature of the beast within. Many try merely to alleviate the external symptoms while avoiding examination of the cause, Ego suggesting that it is smart enough to find an easier way... There is no easy way for our generation.

It is because twentieth century symptoms are so severe, definitely of epidemic proportion, that immediate drastic action is necessary. The task of deep analysis is a time consuming effort. Personnel trained in psychiatry have different views to men whose task is to aid man's spiritual welfare, with chaotic results. Mankind is gravely stricken.

Too late, too late, is a futile cry. Our hope is in tomorrow's children, the generations yet unborn. We must concentrate on their hope of perfection, unblemished in mind and body. We must sow that they may reap, knowing that they will understand how hard we tried to break their shackles.

The criminally minded, the weak minded, the sick minded, are not capable of contributing to such a generation ... not as parents that is. Voluntary vasectomy is the best sacrifice they can offer.

When compulsory vasectomy is advocated it must always be understood that a patient of average ability has been first offered the spiritual solution and found this too hard; or the patient is too disturbed to recognize his own symptoms.

This treatment is particularly useful for inmates of Correctional Institutions who have wrought havoc on Society because of poor environmental background or genetic error. All reformatories should maintain counselling and vasectomy services for any who cared to avail themselves of either. It would be quite feasible to accept both, if the patient was the type who liked to bet on a sure thing. Sterilization of female miscreants is equally important if they cannot be brought to the realization of the sanctity of motherhood.

Other means of planned parenthood are of course quite acceptable for normal households.

But the situation is urgent! ... terribly urgent!!!

Instead of fighting progress with sickly sentimentality, theologians should combine with science to bring pressure to bear on the root of human error. The total and combined force of each is needed to supply the incentive and provide practical application of the measures required to elevate humanity. Science will prune the vine. Theology will nourish the root. ... Leaving Spirit to harvest the bumper crop.

Yet the tiny threadlike hair roots of the human vine lie forever in the bosom of womanhood; here the delicate touch which will shape the finished product. Mothers above all must be selflessly motivated, have deep pools of wisdom and integrity. The natural maternal instinct is inadequate: It magnifies the virtue of the off-spring and often minimizes the child's weaknesses. A biased mother cannot hope to raise an unbiased child. The spiritually dominated woman loves all children, regardless of parentage, and aims to correct error through love.

Adoption is the solution for hopeful parents who feel it unwise to have children of their own. Tomorrow will bring no fears of genetical weakness in the adoptive child, for this will have been eliminated by selective scientific methods ... environment can do the rest. Should the coloring of a prospective son or daughter differ from that of the parents it will cause naught but admiration for nature's marvels of protective pigmentation.

The glorious race will eventually emerge a golden-bronze race, as it was in Atlantis. When each child coming into the world is equal to its fellows,is loved and wanted, given every environmental advantage, developed to maturity with a full sense of equality and justice; in adulthood this person will do the same for his or her own children, and natural-spiritual progress will be secure.

While this ideal state of affairs cannot be reached in one generation, we do have the means to put an abrupt ending to the countless errors and suffering which are the result of criminally delinquent propagation. The sins of the fathers have been handed on to the children for long enough, with successive generations being more heavily burdened. Spiritually speaking, any who after careful consideration are aware of undesirable parental qualifications and submit to sterilization, have this surge of selfless motivation amply rewarded by Spirit. It becomes so much easier for them to look upon all children as His. They develop the ability to diffuse loving thoughts to all ... equally, and are loved by all. There is less remorse to bear in the hour of judgement. The ego is not tempted by small images of self to magnify, and therefore has two less battles to fight, as a parent and a grandparent.

Mankind must redirect his egotistical drive; in children this will be manifested by the ability to study with greater ease, and be less distracted by entertainment and attainment. Today in North America, education is hampered with too many pupils who go to school with the feeling they "know it all" before they start. Smart alecism and wisdom can never coincide and seeds of knowledge fall on infertile soil when the preconscious classifies learning as "not as exciting as play". Harmonious living includes serious concentration and light levity in proportionate measure; emphasis on frivolity before utility sets an unfavorable pattern for later years.

Science will also have the exciting challenge of perfecting conservation and improving production on Earth. All lower forms of animal and plant life must be keyed to higher productivity.

It takes about two and one half acres of land to properly feed each human being. Then there are clothing and housing requirements for each. Though historians may say otherwise, war is the result of greed and need; either on the part of one extreme individual or a nation.

Brilliant minds working to produce luxuries for the privileged is morally wrong while there are still many without adequate minimal requirements. Planned obsolescence in equipment is absurd. The economy of an individual country is unimportant if it interferes with world-wide distribution.

Simpler feeding habits and more attention to physical and mental fitness would be most beneficial for North Americans, with honor replacing the almighty dollar as a standard of achievement.

Science has a thousand thrilling avenues of service to humanity to explore ... effective low cost housing, wear ever materials, transformation of arid land to arable, plant genetics, aura visualization and examination ... to name but a few.

At our present rate of population increase Earth's peoples will exceed livable area in the foreseeable future. If we decide on a fair allotment for each, science must make this ideal reality. When Earthlings have reached this happy state of affairs the question of luxuries can be reconsidered.

Coinciding with the state of plenty, should be the time of improved education and mental capacity, plus freedom from criminal tendencies in each human being. To serve rather than to be served will be the common motivation.

Mankind will have risen above the narrow view of Nationalism or race. The United Nations will be the center of constructive effort and Global Justice. True co-operation among nations is presently non-existent. Honest effort in this field could produce astounding and rapid results.

Ego loves conferences, conventions and committees; delights in hearing itself expound magnanimously as it inwardly schemes to have its way, shelving that which pride finds personally unpalatable.

Over the centuries, in His mysterious way, Deity has sapped the power from the few and placed it in the hands of the common man... now it's up to him to use this power wisely.

"His state is Kingly" ... wrote Milton, "Thousands at His bidding speed and post o'er land and ocean without rest; they also serve who only stand and wait ..."

The waiting period is over. He now provides the means to unmask insincerity, enabling men to place control of Earth's affairsin the rightful place, the will of the honest and humble servants. There can be no cessation of mental fight 'till all of His Word is accomplished. Prepare now for the grave responsibilities ahead.
